A 19-year-old lady whose name is given as Mary Obeng is being pursued for arrest after attempting to defraud Crime Check Foundation (CCF) under the pretext of seeking support for her sick mother.
The young lady with her modus operandi, called the offices of CCF through the mobile phone of its Executive Director, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng weeping to court his sympathy.
She asked for an amount of Two Thousand Ghana cedis to enable her mother to undergo surgery.
After narrating her framed sad story of her mum on admission at the Dansoman Polyclinic, with urgency, Mr. Kwarteng asked a staff member to attend to Obeng’s mother at the health facility.
Upon reaching the clinic, the CCF staff called Obeng on the phone but she said she had left the clinic.
To create the impression that she was genuine, the uncouth lady gave directions to the ward where her supposed mother was kept.
However, the CCF staff went to the ward but could not find Obeng’s mother.
While speaking to Obeng on the phone to get the right directions to her sick mother, the worried staff took further steps to inquire from the nurses in charge of the wards at the facility.
To her disappointment, the CCF staff was told they had not admitted any woman being described to them.
There was no hospital folder opened for Obeng’s supposed mother.
Obeng insisted she left her mother in the care of her little sister at the polyclinic to go to work, which turned out to be a lie.
However, Obeng stood by her words that she was telling the truth.
The frustrated staff returned to the office and reported the incident to the Executive Director of CCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng who also followed up the issue with a phone call to ascertain the truth.
After a short interrogation, Mary Obeng admitted she was telling lies and started to beg for forgiveness when she was threatened with legal action.
“It was the work of the devil”, she was heard saying on the phone.
She is currently on the run as police pursue her to deter her from succeeding in frauding other unsuspected persons and organizations.
