Crime Check Foundation, CCF, shared the story of a 38 year old widow who lives in a rotten wood structure with her three children.
Daavi as she is affectionately called told crimecheckghana she lost her husband in 2015 and was abandoned together with her children by family members. She single-handedly had to face the double task of raising and fending for the three children.
As life became more unbearable, she had to hawk sachet water to cater for her children and herself by leaving the house early in the morning and returning home late in the night, giving very little attention and supervision to the education and training of the children.
The meager earnings she made from hawking sachet water according to her could not renew her rent when it was due so she had to move out to seek shelter in a rotten wooden structure. Recounting her ordeal to crimecheckghana she said “I stay awake with my children to sweep out the rain water when it rains”.
According to the 38 year old widow, her children survive on ₵1.50 pesewas in school, but it is difficult for her to afford it.
After CCF shared her story, some individuals and groups came to her aid by renting a place for her and the children to stay. In addition, she received two thousand cedis to trade. Her children also received school bags, shoes and clothes through the CCF philanthropy project.
The elated widow expressed her joy. “From the deepest part of my heart I express my sincere appreciation to all who supported me in cash and in kind. God bless you and your work”. Daavi thanked her benefactors.
