The District Court at Apam in the Central Region has jailed a 42-year-old driver over an accident that caused the death of another driver and a passenger.
Mr. Fosu said his KIA Samsung vehicle collided with a taxi killing the cab driver and his passenger at Gomoa-Assin while returning from Apam.
“I was descending a hill and all of a sudden the taxi crossed my path. I managed to apply a force brake but we still collided head-on. The taxi driver and the lady died on the spot,” he recalled.
According to the father of five, he had sent a sick woman from Gomoa-Assin to seek medical attention at Apam when the incident happened.
Kwabena Fosu said he regained consciousness after five days in a coma.
He feels the court did not treat him fairly for imprisoning him as he blamed the deceased driver for causing the accident.
Mr. Fosu is however remorseful for his involvement in an accident that has led to the loss of lives.
He has currently served nine months of his sentence.
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) met the driver at the Winneba Local prison as part of its flagship programme, ‘Time With The Prisoner’ meant to caution the general public on the consequences of crime through interviews with inmates.
