Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) has observed with concern the lackadaisical attitude of some women to attend organized screening and sensitization events.
A midwife with the Tema General Hospital Dorothy Denkyi who made the observation indicated that such behaviors by women inhibit the fight against breast cancer.
“If you hear that we are organizing a breast cancer program, please come out in your numbers. You may never know, that program may save your life,” she said.
Mrs. Denkyi was speaking at a Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) breast cancer education and screening at Petuduase, a community in the Awutu Senya West Municipality of the Central Region.
Pupils of the Petuduase T.I Ahmadiyya Basic School were screened together with women from the community.
At least 15 pupils and some women were detected with symptoms of breast cancer.
“It is better that it has been detected early because if we had not come here, your conditions would have worsened with time till nothing could be done to save you,” Mrs. Denkyi said.
The affected individuals including a pregnant woman were given the necessary counsel and referred to seek further diagnosis.
MBCF carries out screening and sensitization campaigns to promote early detection to save lives.
Meena Breast Cancer Foundation was established a year ago to give support to breast cancer patients. The Foundation aims at reducing related breast cancer deaths.
