A 26-year-old fraudster is fighting for his freedom from the hooks of the law after his modus operandi gave him away.
Samuel Asong, a hotel manager could not get through when he tried to trick a media gadgets dealer in Accra with a pre-modified MTN MOMO message.
“The message I sent to him was from a previous transaction I did with him,” he said in an interview with crimecheckghana.org
As an aspiring creative digital creator striving to be established, he failed to pay for two camera lights he ordered online from the capital city.
He rather sent an old message, which indicated that he had paid for the items worth One Thousand Three Hundred Ghana cedis.
According to Asong, he showed the fake message to a driver who delivered the items to him at Nkawkaw where he resided.
The first time fraudster received the items without making any payments and sent the old message to the dealer.
Realizing Ansong was trying to hoodwink him, the dealer confronted him on several occasions.
“I had arguments with the dealer insisting that I paid,” Ansong said.
After several disagreements, Ansong who could not bare the pressure any longer from his regular customer blacklisted every number the dealer called him with.
This made his reach a difficult task.
The owner of the gadget then reported the issue to the police.
He was then arrested and caged in a police cell awaiting his arraignment in Court.
Ansong did not have anybody facilitate his bail. He was then released from a police cell after the 48 hours ultimatum.
He pleaded with the dealer of the gadgets to drop the charge against him to prevent his processing for Court.
As a way to compensate him, the dealer is demanding Five Thousand Ghana cedis to drop the charge against Ansong else he faces court.
Ansong reached out to Crime Check Foundation (CCF) to intervene in the issue.
The gadgets dealer turned down an invitation from CCF for an apology.
The Foundation as part of its efforts to secure Ansong’s freedom paid Five Hundred Ghana cedis out of the Five Thousand Ghana cedis.
Ansong pleaded with the general public for support to clear the debt to avert his imprisonment.
