26-year-old Elizabeth Dede Korley risk losing her life if she fails to raise GHC 21,430.50 to undergo surgery.
Elizabeth lives each day in fear and terror of the obvious happening; she is virtually living in her extra time on earth.
According to doctor’s report, Elizabeth is suffering from a condition called complete heart block which means her heart cannot perform its functions and therefore requires the implantation of a pacemaker or battery into her breastbone to function as a heart.
Elizabeth said, her condition started at age 16 when she collapsed frequently at school and was one-day rushed to the hospital by her grandmother; there she was diagnosed of the condition.
The 26-year-old ‘Somenya’ based beads maker said, she was immediately prepared for a surgery and in 2010, a battery was implanted into her breastbone to function as a heart.
“The doctors told us the battery needs to be replaced every 8-years to keep me alive” adding that I was due for another surgery in January this year but I have not been able to raise the money involved “
According to her, she lost her father along the line and that has had a toll on her upkeep and that of her grandmother talk-less of raising GHC 21,430.50 for a surgery.
The 26-year-old beads-maker said, she has had to stop working since she spends most of her time on admission at the hospital.
“I am unable to work or do anything for myself since I live in fear of dying any moment” she said
Elizabeth has been able to raise GHC 8,000 out of the total cost of her surgery remaining GHC 13,430.5
