The Chairman of real estate giant, Agyare Real Estate, Stephen Ofosu Agyare has pledged to augment the fight against related breast cancer deaths that has been mounted by the Meena Breast Cancer Awareness project.
Mr. Agyare said he would provide an office facility dedicated to the project.
The project, which was launched on October 6, 2022, would not only lead advocacy on the disease but also solicit support for patients to undergo treatment.
Speaking at the launch of the project, Mr. Agyare said as part of his contribution, he would fund the construction of the facility where patients could seek relief services as well serve as an office for the scheme.
This he said indicates the level of earnestness attached to the fight against the canker as it claims the lives of many women mainly due to financial difficulties.
“I would want to humbly promise to support the Meena Breast Cancer campaign with an ultra-modern breast cancer centre dedicated to fight the disease. Let’s all come on board to support the campaign with our widow’s might to intensify the war against the disease,” he appealed.
A doctor at the Lighthouse Hospital, Lady Pastor Dr. Joyce Wilson said a resource centre for patients would be necessary to help them get the right support, both physically and psychologically.
“Can you imagine a patient coming every day from Techiman to Accra just to do Radiography? It would be a burden so it would be important to provide housing for them so that they can get the support they need,” she suggested.
The Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation (CCF), Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng said the project is aimed to fight the disease with actionable measures and not the usual October breast cancer month lip service.
“This campaign against the disease should be deepened. It should be an everyday fight and not the usual October month. The approach must change and government must ensure that education on the disease is intensified. Screening must be taken to schools and that is what we are committed to embark on,” he said.
Mr. Kwarteng is keeping alive the vision of his wife, Amina Oppong Kwarteng who in her sickbed intended to embark on a sensitization drive on breast cancer and also provide support for patients. The unfortunate rather happened.
