Three final-year students of the Opoku Ware Senior High School who were arrested for their alleged involvement in a robbery incident have been granted bail by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
This was after they appeared before the Court for the first time after their arrest on Tuesday, August 16.
They were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, and unlawful damage.
His Honor Abdul Razak Musah who presided over the case granted them ¢80,000 bail with 5 sureties each.
The case has been adjourned to September 1.
On Friday, August 12, 2022, at about 11 p.m., the suspects boarded a taxi from Santasi, the school’s location, and told the driver they were going to their house near the Golden Tulip hotel.
When they came close to Vienna City, one of the teenagers allegedly drew a knife on the driver.
He questioned them why they were doing this as students, and they said it was because they were in need of a car.
The driver refused to give in, so they wrestled in the car, causing the driver to lose control of the wheel and crash into a sand.
The driver’s screams drew bystanders to the site, who assumed it was a regular collision.
The driver was eager to tell the onlookers that this was not a regular accident and informed them that the men had picked him up and wanted to rob him.
Two of them were apprehended on the spot, but one escaped and was apprehended later.
The three, two of whom are 17 years old and one of whom is 19 years old, are in police custody and will be charged in court today, August 16, 2022.
All three are final-year Opoku Ware School students who began as boarding students but moved to day in their final year.
