The Police in Assin Fosu has arrested a 15-year-old schoolgirl for allegedly faking her kidnapping for a ransom from her father.
According to reports, the Junior High School Form 3 student was sent to buy a call credit for her father on April 29, 2022, around 7 pm but failed to return home.
After becoming concerned about the whereabouts of her daughter, the father of the schoolgirl filed a complaint at the Police Station.
He reported that he had received a text message indicating that her daughter has been kidnapped and that for her to be released, a ransom of Twenty thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 20,000) must be paid to a prescribed MoMo account.
After conducting an investigation into the matter, Detective Inspector Bright Okyere uncovered that the girl was behind the alleged kidnapping.
The Police said the detectives assigned to the case worked hard and after liaising with the network provider, AirtelTigo, they managed to get her location to arrest her.
The teenager after interrogation confessed she schemed the act and executed it only to get the money from her father.
Although the suspect is a minor, the Police are preparing to arraign her before court due to the seriousness of her offense.
The public especially young people are advised to desist from such acts or face the full force of the law when arrested.
CCF’s crime prevention advocacy
Aside from paying for the fines of petty offenders, Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has introduced programmes including the latest ‘Stay Away From Trouble’ as part of its crime prevention advocacy project.
Through these programmes CCF cautions the general public against acts that could land them in trouble in a bid to curb crime.
The Foundation screens one-on-one interviews with prison inmates bringing to bear acts that landed them in prison and the difficulties they face in custody.
It has also paid the fines of many petty offenders for their release and integrated them into society.
