It’s funny how a taste of your own medicine makes you sick. That moment you find yourself with people you were once a boss over, you can only curse your stars. That is the fate of Abibulai Nankpa, a prison officer who is currently serving a 13year jail term at Sekondi Central Prison for possessing narcotics.
In an interview with crimecheckghana, Abibulai swore by the Quran he did not smuggle weed into the prison and that he believes it was a set up to land him in trouble. He said most of the inmates felt pity for him when he was thrown into jail as a criminal. “When the prisoners saw me being brought in as one of them, most of them wept”, he said.
But once Ghana is yet to pass the Narcotics Control Commission Bill into law, Abibulai who has served just a year of his sentence will have to bear the hardships of prison life and be ordered about by his own colleague prison officers for the next 12 good years.
He however insists that he is innocent of his charge and is therefore pleading with the general public to come to his aid in order to appeal his case.
