Fourteen persons have been burnt to death in an accident on the Takoradi- Cape Coast highway in the Central Region.
According to reports, the incident happened at Asemasa Number 1 in the Western Region on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, around 2pm.
The accident involved a tipper truck and a Ford bus with registration number GW 5628-21, which had onboard, some Ghanaians and Chinese nationals traveling from Tarkwa.
Eyewitnesses told the media that the tipper truck did a wrongful overtaking. Upon realizing the careless driving on the part of his counterpart, the driver of the Ford vehicle stopped to make way for the truck.
But the truck’s driver lost control of his vehicle as a result of a tyre burst during the process.
The tipper truck then fell on the Ford and caught fire.
However, the Western Regional Police MTTD Commander, Chief Superintendent, Isaac K. Sorkpah, is urging persons whose relatives traveled on Tuesday from Tarkwa to Accra and have not arrived at their destinations to contact the Tarkwa station.
According to him, it will aid in identifying passengers who boarded a Ford vehicle with registration number GW 6628-21 which was involved in a fatal accident.
The Fourteen (14) people on board the Accra-bound Ford vehicle from Tarkwa died in the crash at Asem Asa in the Shama District, near the boundary between Western and Central Regions.
Chief Superintendent Isaac K Sorkpah who spoke to Citi News said “at the moment we have been able to establish the identity of the ford bus, which is GW 6628-21. We urge persons whose relatives traveled between the two towns to contact the Tarkwa police station and be very sure which of the buses their relatives boarded.”
