One robbery suspect has been shot dead in a shootout with the police at the Nyariga Forest, along the Bolgatanga-Nyariga stretch in the Upper East Region.
This was after a team of police officers on patrol duty received a distress call that some robbers were attacking traders from the Nyariga market on February 27, 2022.
According to a police statement the team encountered three young men wielding pump-action guns at the market.
The young men engaged the police in a shootout, and one was gunned down in the process, but two managed to escape.
The injured suspect was rushed to the regional hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the medical officer.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the regional hospital morgue.
Also, a backpack containing 11 rounds of the same BB cartridge ammunition was retrieved from the scene.
The police have appealed to the chiefs and people of Nyariga to volunteer any credible information that will lead to the arrest of the other suspects, who are currently on the run.
Crime Check Foundation’s crime prevention advocacy
Crime Check Foundation (CCF) has introduced programmes including the latest ‘Stay Away From Trouble’ as part of its crime prevention advocacy project.
Through these programmes CCF cautions the general public against acts that could land them in trouble in a bid to curb crime.
The Foundation screens one-on-one interviews with prison inmates bringing to bear acts that landed them into prison and the difficulties they face in custody.
It has also paid the fines of many petty offenders for their release.
