US-based Ghanaian rapper, Vic Mensah has been arrested by the US Customs for allegedly possessing a stash of mushrooms from Ghana.
He was arrested at the Dulles International Airport in the US after his holidays in Ghana.
According to a US news channel, TMZ, the rapper was taken into custody on Saturday at the Dulles airport in Washington D.C and was booked for a felony related to narcotics possession when mushrooms were found in his luggage after a thorough search was conducted on him twice.
In parts of America, shrooms, scientifically known as Psilocybin, are Schedule 1 substances, defined as drugs with a high potential for abuse or drugs that have no recognized medical uses under US federal law.
Some states in the US however are now pushing for its legalization.
According to TMZ, the authorities are still testing the substance they allegedly found to confirm if it is indeed what they suspect it is.
Vic Mensa had been in Ghana in December and was later joined by colleague rapper Chance the Rapper in January 2022.
The duo toured some parts of the country and met with many musicians and other celebrities including Darkovibes, Sarkodie, King Promise, and M.anifest.
Vic Mensa and Chance The Rapper later paid a visit to President Akufo Addo at the Jubilee House at the latter part of their tour prior to their departure.
The purpose of their meeting, according to the handlers of Beyond the Return’s Instagram page, was to discuss an idea that could aid in bridging the gap between artists in Ghana and the U.S.
