The Fomena District Police Command has arrested a fetish priest, Nana Collins Asamoah for allegedly shooting to death a taxi driver at Ahinsan-Ntoaku, near Dompoase in the Adansi North District.
The deceased 28-year-old Kwadwo Antwi, met his untimely death on Tuesday morning when he was loading passengers at a lorry station where he works.
According to sources Nana Asamoah’s gun automatically off-loaded and hit Antwi’s chest when he pulled it out at the station where the deceased was loading his vehicle.
Antwi was pronounced dead on arrival at the Benito hospital where he was been rushed to seek medical attention.
“Collins pulled out a gun at the lorry station where I and Antwi with other drivers were loading passengers. Suddenly I heard a loud gunshot and soon after that I saw Antwi struggling with blood oozing out from his chest,” a witness, Nana Adom recounted.
Nana Adom said the people around together with the fetish priest rushed him to the Benito hospital in the town but did not survive as he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Colins Asamoah was detained to assist in investigations when he went to the Dompoase Police to surrender himself.
“The suspect is in custody while investigations are ongoing,” the Dompoase District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Yaw Ohene Takyi confirmed.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that some of the youth from Ahinsan-Ntoaku have attacked and burnt down the house of the fetish priest at Agogooso, a village where he lived with his family.
Chief Superintendent Takyi said the Police have sent reinforcement to Agogooso to help protect life and property.
The District Commander urged the youth to remain calm and desist from acts that could land them in conflict with the law.
He called on them to hold on to peace while the Police investigate the matter.
