Twenty-six suspected internet fraudsters at Ironcity in Kasoa have been arrested based on police intelligence.
On Thursday morning, the Commander of the newly created Central East Regional Police rounded up the suspects who included two females in their hideouts in three separate houses.
Items retrieved from the suspects include 31 laptops, 26 mobile phones, three machetes, dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, and some toffees suspected to have been laced with cannabis.
The police carried out the special operation to clamp down on illegal activities in Kasoa following reported rise in criminal activities in the area.
DCOP Boapeah admonished landlords to do a thorough background check of all tenants before giving out their rooms for rent.
He also advised homeowners to always cross-check with the Ghana Immigration Service to authenticate the resident permit and other documents of foreigners before renting out their rooms to them.
He asked the support of residents of the area and reminded them of their civic responsibility to volunteer timely and accurate information to law enforcement agencies to rid the region of all social miscreants.
Kasoa and its environs are noted for high crime making the area a dangerous place to live. The security agencies have beefed up it operations to clamp down on the activities of criminals in the area to make it safe for residents.
In a bid to reduce crimes, Crime Check Foundation (CCF) through its ‘Time With The Prisoner’ programme screens interviews with prison inmates bringing to bare what led them to prison and the difficulties they face in detention to serve as deterrent to the general public.
