29-year-old Jennifer Agyarkwa wept uncontrollably narrating her ordeal to crimecheckghana.
“I just couldn’t understand why Jenny would boldly confess to me about something most women wouldn’t dare do”. Mr. Ibrahim Kwarteng told crimecheckghana.
Narrating her story in tears, the mother of one catalogs the struggles she has had to endure after the demise of her mother. The worst of it all is the persistent physical abuse she suffered at the hands of the man who made her pregnant and ultimately denied responsibility. “He beats me up mercilessly and hits my head against walls sometimes, just because of phone calls”. Jenny tells crimecheckghana.
Jenny admits she has been doing this for the past 3 years now, and feels very bad for going through such ordeal. “I’ve been doing this for the past three years but now I’m fed up”, she said. Her desire is to acquire some working capital to be able to take care of herself and her daughter. Every man she has sought assistance from comes up with a condition- SEX! Her female friends she once assisted shun her anytime she tried to seek assistance from them.
She has had to give in to men at times to take her daughter to hospital or pay her rent to prevent embarrassment from her landlord. “What makes me sad in life is the fact that I have to sleep with men before I get money to feed my child and myself”, she added sorrowfully.
Mr. Kwarteng said, “I initially thought she needed some cheap publicity, but after listening to her speak, a deep sense of honesty and sadness could be felt in her speech and her eyes couldn’t contain it. A feeling that awakened me to the realization that there are millions of women who give in to men they may hate, just to save certain pressing situations”.
Most women have sworn not to come out for fear of stigmatization. So for Jenny to come out boldly to seek financial support to set up a business does not in any way belittle her. She says she is just fed up accepting just any man. CCF gave her one thousand.
