66-year-old Tia Wuriche has spent over seventeen years in the Tindaan Zee Witches Camp in Kpatinga in the Gushegu Municipality of the Northern Region. She ended up in the Camp after she was accused of bewitching her niece and making her unable to give birth.
The blind widow said she was sent to the Camp after the family warned her husband to either send her to the Camp or face lynching.
“I was brought to the Camp by my husband after my relatives accused me of causing the miscarriage of my niece. I don’t have any strange powers but they did not want to listen to me to prove my innocence.” She told crimecheckghana.
According to her, she got totally blind after she was abandoned in the Camp.
Wuriche said she depends on abled colleagues to get food to eat because of her condition. She said she has been sleeping on the bare floor for 17 years since she was sent to the Camp.
“I heard my husband died last year and my son is sick so he cannot visit me. The rest of the family do not care about me so it has not been easy living here.” She said.
She said life has been difficult for her after government removed their names from the Lively Empowerment Programme (LEAP) which used to ease their living.
Madam Wuriche appealed for livelihood support to ease her difficulties.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF appeals to the public to come to the aid of this poor blind widow.
CCF’s Village Charity Series is used to seek funds for struggling village dwellers.
The Foundation has extended its programmes to the Northern part of Ghana which has a huge poverty population.
