Crime Check Foundation, a crime advocacy organization has decorated Black Stars and Newcastle Midfielder, Christian Atsu with a humanity award. The ceremony which took place at the midfielder’s house at Accra was in recognition of his contribution to the Foundation’s Petty Offenders Project. The project solicits financial support to pay the court fines of petty offenders who find themselves in Ghana’s prisons.
The midfielder who has also been advocating the passage of Non- Custodial law in Ghana has so far contributed to the release of fifty three prisoners. In receiving the award, he pledged to further support those released with skills training and financial assistance to enable them re-integrate successfully into society. “There is the need to support them to prevent the situation where they go back to re-offend because of poverty”, Atsu told crimecheckghana.
He commended Crime Check Foundation for its crime prevention campaign and its support for prisoners in Ghana. He urged philanthropists and other well-meaning Ghanaians to support the work of the foundation to enable the poor and the voiceless have access to justice.
The midfielder who got injured in Ghana’s friendly with Mauritania has since returned to his base at Newcastle.
