Residents of Wofugamani, the farming community in the Tamale North Constituency of the Northern Region that competed with animals for the same source of drinking water breathe a sigh of relief as Crime Check Foundation, CCF constructs a new borehole for the community.
The Fifteen Thousand Ghana Cedis project was executed through the support of CCF’s donors.
According to the residents, the water source which contained both human and animal faecal matter, brought untold hardships on them as they spent their little income to get medical attention for their children who frequently contracted water-borne diseases.
“We defecate at the bank of the river because we do not have a toilet facility. Frequently, we have to take our children to the hospital and because of that, doctors have asked us to stop using water from the river but we do not have an option. We plead that you help us get clean water.” They appealed.
The worries of the residents who used to trek miles to fetch the brownish infested river are over as the newly built borehole would be a source of clean water for their use.
Commissioning the facility, the Executive Director of CCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, assured the residents that CCF will continue to address other pressing needs of the community. “We want to assure you that this is not going to be the last, we are going to come here to attend to the pressing needs of the community. We hope that the intervention that we have made is going to help reduce water-borne diseases if not completely eradicate it. We hope and pray that with the support of our donors we will come back with another intervention to address your needs.” He said.
The Member of Parliament for the Tamale North Constituency, Alhassan Suhuyini praised CCF for the timely intervention. He was happy that aside the borehole, the Foundation has donated generously to address the concerns of the community.
Some of the residents sharing their joy said they won’t trek miles to access clean drinking water. “We are happy that Crime Check Foundation has come to our aid with portable drinking water. We are grateful to them because we won’t share same source of drinking water with animals again.” They said excitedly.
A grand durbar was organized by the Chiefs and people to show their appreciation to the Foundation.
