Member of Parliament for the Mfantseman Constituency, Ekow Quansah Hayford has reportedly been shot dead.
According to news sources, he was allegedly shot by armed robbers on the Abeadze Dominase – Abeadze Duadzi – Mankessim Road on his return from a campaign trip.
He is believed to have been attacked by 6 highway armed robbers at about 1:00 am Friday morning.
According to eyewitness account, while the robbery was ongoing, the MP identified himself. This allegedly infuriated the robbers who blamed him for the problems being faced by people in the country.
He was then shot twice, leading to his untimely demise.
The robbers are currently on the run.
Families and constituents are still in shock over the murder in videos from the constituency showing it was a very emotional and sad moment for the residents.
They broke down in tears and thronged the premises of the Saltpond Hospital when Mr. Hayford’s body was being conveyed from the mortuary.
Both young and old people amid tears said prayers for the perpetrators to be arrested and brought to book.
Reports indicated the deceased was shot on the Abeadze Dominase – Abeadze Duadzi – Mankessim Road on his return from a campaign trip.
Confirming the news, the NPP first vice constituency chairman, Wofa Yaw, said they were returning from a campaign tour when armed robbers attacked them.
Meanwhile, the police have commenced investigations into the incident.
A survival of the robbery attack, said the driver of their vehicle managed to narrowly escape.
“When we got to where the robbery was taken place, our driver swiftly returned on top speed so the robbers couldn’t chase us. We did not know what was happening and the driver also did not tell us what he saw. After we manage to escape, he told us there was a robbery going on. The police came to the scene after a popularly journalist called to inform them.” The eyewitness said.
