19 year old Mary Lavoe, has had her womb removed after her pregnancy turned cancerous.
According to her, she engaged in an amorous relationship to get assistance because her parents couldn’t fulfill all her needs. She said she got pregnant but refused to terminate it on the demand of her boyfriend who later ignored her so she had to drop out of school.
“My brothers put me in school because my parents couldn’t afford it. My boyfriend was also a student so he only gave me little support. When I told him about the pregnancy he asked me to abort it but I declined. I dropped out of school and when they asked me, I lied that I wanted to learn a trade.” She told crimecheckghana.
The young lady said she fell ill and after visiting different hospitals, she was diagnosed of womb cancer. She said she gave up and agreed with doctors to remove her womb after she bled profusely a week to Chemotherapy.
“Doctors at the Nsawam Government Hospital diagnosed it to be ectopic pregnancy. It was revealed that I had womb cancer after my blood sample was taken to Koforidua for diagnosis. I was then referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for confirmation and treatment. The doctors said the treatment won’t be successful because I did not have enough blood. I gave up and told them to remove my womb if I will be saved through that.” She said.
A medical doctor at the hospital, Dr. Daniel Gyan Baah explained how Lavoe’s pregnancy turned cancerous and the reason for removing her womb as the only means to save her.
“In her case she developed a Molar pregnancy because it came abnormal. That means the pregnancy turned cancerous. The pregnancy determinant, beta HCG, was dangerously high even after the pregnancy failed and clinically she was losing weight abnormally amid excessive bleeding. That drew our attention that there was a problem with the pregnancy and with your support we had to remedy it because her family couldn’t afford the charges.” He clarified.
