45 year old Akua Agyeiwaa is in a pickle as she is unable to get medical attention for her thirteen year old blind daughter, Asana Haruna.
Madam Agyeiwaa said Asana got blind after she complained of head and neck aches. She said with the help of the Assemblyman of her area, she took her daughter to the hospital where doctors diagnosed her of brain tumor which has affected her sight. “My daughter only complained of headache and after a short period she told me she couldn’t see any longer. At the hospital the doctors asked us to undergo series of scans which revealed that a tumor had developed in her head and that has caused her blindness.” She told crimecheckghana.
The poor woman said they were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to undergo surgery at a cost of Four Thousand Ghana Cedis. She said because of financial difficulties she has been struggling to raise the money for the surgery. “I am stranded now because I have sold my properties to pay for her medications so it has become a challenge to afford the surgery.” She said.
The destitute woman said she sleeps in a dusty kitchen after her room was gutted by fire when she was away to look for her children, after returning from work. Agyeiwaa said she cannot rent a room because she only makes meager income from her firewood job. “All my belongings have been burnt to ashes so I had to perch in a kitchen with my daughter. Even that, it was the Assemblyman who helped me to furnish the dusty kitchen and re-roofed it for me. Please help me save my daughter’s sight. I am going through a lot of bitterness.” She appealed.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF adds it voice to that of Agyeiwaa and appeal to individuals and organizations to support her to enable her restore her daughter’s sight.
