66 year old Maame Afia Asamoah has no option than to patiently await death because she has been struggling to afford Three Thousand Four Hundred Ghana Cedis to undergo a second phase of Chemotherapy.
Maame Asamoah said one of her breasts was severed after she was diagnosed of breast cancer at the hospital. She said the cancer has affected one of her sight making it difficult for her to go about her normal duties hence the hardship. The poor woman said her son-in law who was her only hope, unfortunately passed on leaving behind six children who have come to compound her woes. “I was diagnosed of breast for year and half ago and the only way to survive was to get rid of my breast. The disease blurred my left eye making it difficult for me to see. My daughter’s husband who was supporting me died and now I am facing difficulties.” She told crimecheckghana.
The old lady said she made efforts to complete the first phase of Chemotherapy but the second phase has become a challenge for her as she has spent all her savings on initial hospital bills. She said she has to depend on the benevolence of neighbors to be able to attend scheduled reviews at the hospital because of financial difficulties. “Doctors have placed me on medication pending my second Chemotherapy session which I cannot afford. Even for the medication, I rely on neighbors for assistance. Now, I fear my other breast will be affected because some stenching fluid has started oozing out of it so I am pleading with kind individuals to help me.” She said appealed.
