70 year old Florence Owusu has been paralyzed for over fifty years after a medical treatment she undertook went bad. Her older sister, Nyamekye Owusu who sees to her welfare is also partially blind making life unbearable for them.
According to Nyamekye, during her youthful age, Florence complained of aching tummy and she went to the hospital for treatment. She said she underwent surgery and after the treatment, her waist was affected which eventually got her crippled. “She had successfully finished school and was worked in a hospital only for her to come back from work one day complaining of pains in her tummy. Florence went to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where doctors connected a plastic tube in her stomach through which she passed faecal matter. She couldn’t walk again after the tube was removed. We roamed from one hospital to the other to get treatment for her to walk again but to no avail. ” She told crimecheckghana.
The partially blind granny said her physically challenged sister never got married because she wanted to further her education, hence her childlessness. The old woman said life has been difficult for them as her only child who struggles to make a living has been the one who cater for their needs because their family is not well to do to also support them. “The day my daughter does not have money we starve. Sometimes we have to depend on benevolent neighbors who gift us money when they pass by. This is what we have been going through all our lifetime.” She said.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF, through the contribution of one of its Canada based group donors, Ghanaian Women Aglow gave Florence and her sister Five Hundred Ghana Cedis for their upkeep as it counts on individuals and organizations to come to their aid.
CCF’s Charity Series is used to solicit financial support for poor individuals and families that are struggling to make ends meet.
