43 year old Victoria Forson is in ‘dire straits’ as her struggle to get her bedridden husband medical care has been unsuccessful.
Mrs. Forson said her husband, Eric Adjei, 41 was involved in a car accident whiles he was returning from a friend’s funeral at night. She told crimecheckghana that her spouse was able to survive but was severely injured making him bedridden. The poor woman said Eric’s spinal cord was badly affected and had his bones fractured rendering him incapable to move his body except his head. “He accompanied his friend to a funeral and when they were returning, the car they were travelling on hit a heap of sand and somersaulted. They were three onboard the vehicle and at the spot one person died but my husband and another friend survived with severe injuries. My husband’s friend who was injured has recovered but my hubby is still battling for his life.” She said.
The seemingly helpless woman said she has been unable to seek medical treatment for her husband after several months. However, luck smiled on her when one of her in-laws made a down payment of Twelve Thousand Ghana Cedis out of Fifteen Thousand Ghana Cedis demanded for her husband to undergo surgery but doctors are reluctant to attend to him. “When my husband was referred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, we made a deposit but doctors will come around him without attending to him or even explain anything to us. It was later they told us to take him home because of the COVID-19 lockdown.” She explained.
Madam Forson said, though the doctors appeared reluctant to treat her husband they have refused to refund the part payment. “The money was the contribution from friends and church members and now that the accountant is refusing to refund the money, life has been difficult for me in taking care of my husband. What the doctors told us was that we had to be led by an astute person in society before they can attend to my husband.” She said.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF through two its US based donors, Hagar Hansen and Helen Larbi, gave Mrs. Forson One Thousand Five Hundred Ghana Cedis for the upkeep of the family.
The distressed woman thanked CCF and the contributors for the support. “God bless you and make you great for your benevolence. May you never lack and continue to flourish in your endeavors.” She prayed.
CCF is appealing to individuals and organizations to come to the aid of the poor woman to enable her get medical attention for her husband.
The Foundation’s Health Check Series is used to solicit support for sick persons who have been struggling to access medical care because of poverty.
