Two poor widows, one-breast Aishatu Inusah, and bedridden amputee Stella Awuni are starving because of their inability to work to fend for themselves because of their deformation.
56-year-old Aisha said she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had her left breast severed by doctors as the only means to save her. She said due to that her food vending business stalled following doctors’ advice for her to quit because the intense heat in which she works could worsen her ailment.
“After my breast was severed, I was selling porridge but doctors advised me to stop working in the heat. I went ahead to sell fruits but it also collapsed because I was unable to carry the goods from the market due to my ill-health. I do not have any business doing now so I struggle to feed.” She told crimecheckghana.org
The mother of six said her stalled business coupled with the demise of her husband has ruined her life. She said due to financial difficulties she relies on the benevolence of neighbors to be able to feed and buy medicines.
She said because she still lives with her husband’s family she has been turned into a laughing stock. “If I do not get gifts from neighbors I only drink water and sleep on an empty stomach. I wish I could go back to my family in the village but the problem is that I do not have a room there.” She said.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF through one of its US-based donors Maa Vida gave the poor widow One Thousand Six Hundred and Forty-One Ghana Cedis. Madam Inusah was grateful for the gesture. “God bless you and grant you your heart desires. May God grant you a long life and replenish what you have contributed for me so that you will get more to help others in need.” She prayed.
Similarly, Stella Awuni had one of her legs amputated as a result of diabetes. She said six months after the unfortunate incident, another ailment attacked her, ripping her off all her finances due to the footing of hospital bills.
The mother of five said life has been very bitter as her elderly son who could support her has fled her and due to financial difficulties she is unable to feed let alone attend scheduled periodic medical checkups. “I have not been able to attend periodic medical checkups at the hospital because I do not have money. When I needed urgent medical treatment, it was a benevolent individual who paid my bills because I could not afford it. My 33-year-old son who could have helped me has left me for some years now and I do not know his whereabouts. Now my living depends on the benevolence of neighbors.” She told crimecheckghana.org
CCF supported poor Awuni with an amount of Two Hundred Ghana Cedis being a donation from one Maa Lydia.
The destitute woman blessed Maa Lydia and the Executive Director of CCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng for the gesture. “God bless you and increase you for wiping off my tears. May God grant you all your desires for making this contribution for me.” She prayed.
CCF is appealing to benevolent individuals and organizations to support both women to get an established source of livelihood and assist Awuni to get an artificial.
The gesture forms part of the Foundation’s Charity Series which is used to solicit support for poor individuals and families who have been starving.
