The Chairman of the Ghana Committed Drivers Association, GCDA, Mr. Charles Danso has taken a swipe at government for falsifying the COVID-19 cases which he says do not exist.
Speaking in an interview with the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, CCF, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, Mr. Danso said that government is misleading the citizenry, disputing the fact that the current case count which stands at 9, 368 is not real. He challenged government to prove the authenticity of the number as he argued that patients suffering from other diseases like Malaria are been treated in the hospitals but government tends to create an illusion with that of COVID-19. He also said it is the duty of the Police to ensure strict enforcement of the COVID-19 safety protocols, and not drivers.
“You should ask the PRO of Ghana Police, DSP Afia Tenge to work for the numbers to go down. If we all want to fight this COVID-19 what we must also say is that the number is not true. They are deceiving us. If you go to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, you can locate those with Hole in Heart but Government says the COVID-19 patients are in hotels. So let them show us the COVID people. It is a pathological lie. Don’t we know Malaria patients in Ghana? Don’t we know those with CSM?” He asked.
Mr. Danso arguably said that because drivers abide by the laid down protocols to curb the spread of the disease if there is any, only three of them have contracted it. He held that government should allow drivers take more passengers rather than directing them to cut down the number to ensure social distancing because even if the disease exists in the country it will not spread in vehicles.
“We have regulations which we always abide by. How many taxi drivers have got this Corona Virus? It is only three drivers. You can call the Achimota Hospital to find out. They are spoiling our work so they should let us work. The government has to calm down to allow us pick our numbers. If they say we should greet with our elbows, is that not what we experience in commercial vehicles? Do we kiss in our cars? They should let us work and leave us alone. We are suffering.” He cried out.
The Ghana Committed Drivers Association is a group of Commercial Drivers other than the Ghana Private Road Transport Union.
