CCF SUPPORT HAWKERS WITH START-UP CAPITAL

Crime Check Foundation CCF has assisted two poor street hawkers Augustina Ayimbiri and Dennis Akowia with Thousand Ghana Cedis to set-up their own businesses. Both hawkers live in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana and have been hawking for years without business capital.

For worn-out Augustina, she says life has been afflicting for her without working capital, so she usually has to take “groundnut cake” on credit to sell before she can get money to fend for the family.

The mother of three said she sometimes has to plead with the owner of the cake to let her forgo sales when daily sales is bad. “I took Fifty Ghana Cedis worth of the cake to sell but so far I have sold Thirty Ghana Cedis. I am very tired because of the hawking. If I do not sell enough too, I cannot meet my target and my madam too would demand her sales. I have to plead with her to forgo sales for that day”. She said.

The middle aged woman said her husband is a drunkard and because of his drinking attitude his brother has taken him to his hometown leaving behind the children.

She further told crimecheckghana that she could not rent a room after the one they lived in expired and subsequently gutted fire.

 “Because my husband is a drunkard he could not renew our rent. So the landlord told me to leave the room or something unfortunate will happen to me. One day my room caught fire when I was bathing. Unfortunately I could not retrieve any of my belongings”.

Augustina said she had to break into her brother-in-law’s room to find shelter for herself and her children.

Like Augustina, financially handicapped duster hawker, Dennis Akowia says he takes the duster on credit to sell before he is able to makes ends meet.

“When I take dusters valued at One Hundred Ghana Cedis, my profit at the end of the month is Thirty Ghana Cedis. I am really suffering”. He told crimecheckghana.

The distressed father of five said among his family he is the only person who has succeeded in travelling to work in a city. He said because of the harsh living condition his wife cheated on him.

“All my siblings are in the village. I am the only one in Kumasi at least trying to raise the living standard of the family and because living conditions have not been rosy my wife was sleeping with another man”. He said painfully.

CCF supported both hawkers with Five Hundred Ghana Cedis each to start their own business.

Augustina was appreciative of the gesture, after receiving the money.

“I thank the donors for coming to my aid. They will never lack anything in their lives”.

A surprised Dennis also rained blessings on the donors.

“I thank God for touching the hearts of the donors to support me. I am very grateful to them. May God bless them to flourish in their business. For Crime Check Foundation, I pray that God lift the Executive Director Mr. Oppong Kwarteng to higher grounds and grant him long life”.
