Black Stars and Newcastle midfielder, Christian Atsu has expressed concern about the lack of job opportunities for exconvicts in the country. In an exclusive interview with the Executive Director of Crime Check Foundation, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng at Newcastle in the UK, the midfielder urged Ghanaians not to look down on exconvicts but rather accept them back into society and support them with job opportunities. This he said will prevent the situation where some of them are forced back into crime. He also urged the public not to assume that every exconvict necessarily committed a crime, and that certain situations which one may not have control of, sometimes take people into prison.
The midfielder who has paid court fines for the release of over forty prisoners in Ghana, said he is collaborating with Crime Check Foundation to provide job opportunities for prisoners he will help release, instead of leaving them to go home with no prospects of a job. He urged government to support the initiative by providing job openings for exconvicts in the country.
