THE PLIGHT OF THE TWO DISABLED CHILDREN

Abraham Nkrumah cries for public assistance after spending all his finances on his two disabled children.

Abraham Nkrumah and his wife, Afia Brago who stays at Nkwanta Kese in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region have five children and amongst them are two disabled children. “Our first three children are healthy and physically fit but the last two who are 11 and 13 were disabled right from birth. My wife and I decided to look for a medical solution to their predicament”. He tells crimecheckghana.

According to Nkrumah, he was a successful farmer but unfortunately, had to quit work and seek for medical care for his two disabled kids. He said they have done all they could but have been unsuccessful in getting cure for the two children.

The one eyed man said after spending all his money on medication, he went back farming but he has developed a waist problem which makes it challenging for him to work. “Because of my waist sickness, I cannot work often on the farm as I used to. My wife is now the one who works on the farm to cater for the family”. Nkrumah said.

When crimecheckghana spoke to his wife, Afia Brago, she said she never had complications when she was pregnant with her two disabled children. “     I cannot tell what exactly happened for them to be disabled. Doctors never said I had a problem with the children when I was pregnant”. She said.

Brago said the children cannot do anything on their own so she has to be there for them all the time. She added that three of her children who are healthy stay with other families who take care of them so she has no one to help her cater for the disabled ones.

A crestfallen Brago says she gets sad when people stare at the children anytime they pass through her house. “People passing by usually stop to stare at the children in a negative manner. I just have to sack them and tell them to be grateful to God that they are medically fit so they should stop staring at others”. She said.

The Nkrumah family is pleading with Crime Check Foundation and its donors to come to their aid.
