Known only as Mr. Morrison, the 60-year-old man has fled embarrassment after impregnating and abandoning a lady with a special condition at Kwashieman in Accra.
According to Rita Asiedu, mother of Divina, her daughter who is epileptic and also suffers from speech impairment, informed her with sign language that Mr. Morrison had slept with her.
“When I came back from hawking, Divina gestured to me that Mr. Morrison has raped her,” she said.
Rita Asiedu and Mr. Morrsion are tenants of a compound house at Kwashieman.
Madam Asiedu, a widow, lost her husband years ago leaving in her care three children; Kingsley, Desmond, and Divina despite her destitute situation.
The widow told crimecheckghana.org that, Mr. Morrison voluntarily approached her and confessed he was responsible for Divina’s pregnancy, which was about four months old at the time.
“He gave me Ghc 500 for her antenatal care and because he claimed responsibility for the pregnancy, I did not want to take any action against him,” she indicated.
However, Mr. Morrison had ulterior motives. Madam Asiedu said, one day, when she came back from hawking, Mr. Morrison had packed out of the house without notice and every effort to reach him had proved futile.
“Since he left he never answers my call,” she said.
Divina’s child is three years old and Mr. Morrison is yet to see the adorable boy, if only he would ever muster the courage to come back to look for him.
Madam Asiedu, her children, and her grandchild are wallowing in poverty as they can barely feed from the meager sales she makes from selling sachet water on the street.
Their critical condition pushed them to sleep on the stairs leading to the offices of Crime Check Foundation (CCF) waiting for it to be opened to seek support.
CCF gave the family Ghc 1,500 in support with some 5 pieces of foreign fabrics and clothes, a gift donated by a Canada-based donor who wants to remain anonymous.
The Foundation is on a quest to hunt out Mr. Morrison to take responsibility for his child.
