The Interior Minister-Designate, Muntaka Mubarak has described as dehumanizing, the daily feeding fee of prison inmates.
Responding to questions during his vetting when he appeared at the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Mr. Muntaka said it is a human rights violation for the prison inmates to be fed Ghc 1.80.
According to him, the amount is woefully inadequate and he will review it when he assumes office.
“Ghc 1.80 is dehumanizing. It cannot even buy an egg,” he bemoaned.
Mr. Muntaka in dealing with the feeding of prisoners and decongesting the prisons, indicated that he would court the private sector partnership to improve prison conditions.
“We cannot rely only on the government. I will court the private sector for a public-private partnership to help resolve the issues of the prisons,” he assured.
The Minister-Designate applauded some religious organizations including The Church of Pentecost for their contribution to improving the Ghana Prisons Service.
