A 12-year-old Form 2 student of St. Theresa’s Catholic Basic School at Saltpond in the Central Region fears her life is at risk after a suspected breast cancer lump was found in her breast.
The teenager was among eight who were identified to have signs of breast cancer during a Meena Breast Cancer Foundation (MBCF) sensitization and screening programme held at the Methodist Senior High School in the area.
A total of 380 students of the schools including Beach Road M/A Basic School underwent the exercise.
The affected students have been advised to seek further investigations into their conditions to ascertain whether or not the signs are cancerous.
The cases recorded raise concerns about how the deadly disease is spreading fast among adolescents.
MBCF is deepening its sensitization and breast screening enterprise among teens.
Since its implementation a year ago, 15 schools including a Tertiary Institution have benefited.
The Foundation supports individuals identified with the ailment during its programmes.
