Elrad Amoako, the 16-year-old son of Prophet Salifu Amoako has been sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Centre over a fatal accident that occurred at East Legon, claiming two lives.
The minor was sentenced for manslaughter after he drove into another vehicle, killing two preteens instantly in October 2024.
Elrad initially pleaded not guilty to charges of manslaughter, negligently causing harm, dangerous driving, and driving without a license.
He, however, later changed his plea to guilty.
The presiding judge at the Family and Juvenile Court in Accra, Bernice Mensimah Ackon, convicted him based on his own plea.
As part of the sentence, the court ordered the teenager to report to probation officers every two weeks. He has also been directed to sign an undertaking to refrain from driving until he turns 18.
The six-month sentence is the maximum punishment prescribed under the Juvenile Justice Act 2003 (Act 653) for a juvenile offender charged with manslaughter.
Meanwhile, his parents have also been fined 500 penalty units each (equivalent to GHc 6,000) for failing to supervise their son properly in a separate case.
They were also instructed to pay for the damages caused in the accident, including a light pole valued at GHc 8,000.
Meanwhile, the families of the two teenagers who lost their lives in a tragic accident have expressed mixed emotions following the sentencing of the teenager.
