The son of legendary Ghanaian goalkeeper, Robert Mensah has reportedly committed suicide.
Reports indicate that Kofi Anto died earlier this week.
Anto who has been physically challenged since birth is said to have hanged himself on the ceiling of his room after driving away his son while he was around him.
According to the family, “three days ago, Kofi Anto seemed uneasy and asked his son who was playing around him to go out and play and not make so much noise around. It was this opportunity he took to hang himself.”
Kofi Anto, in a recent interview, opened up on the struggles he was enduring when he could easily sell off his father’s cap to get medical attention.
He disclosed being under pressure to auction his father’s legendary cap to foot his medical bills but vowed to protect his father’s legacy.
In that interview, he was hopeful that God will heal him of his sickness but he, unfortunately, succumbed to the hardships that had crippled him.
“If I was to sell this 50-year-old cap of legacy, it would have long been done. Yes, I am disabled but it’s God who heals. I will not sell it for any amount. I am hopeful that I will be well,” he said.
Anto, which means did not meet either his father or mother was born on the day his father died in 1971.
The family is yet to announce plans for his funeral in the coming days.
The late Robert Mensah was the best goalkeeper in Africa when he was stabbed to death at the age of 32. He is easily remembered for his unique dressing during games wearing a cap vertically every match he played. Oppositions found it difficult to get past him when he is in his full amour making him a fearful goalkeeper.
