77-year-old Lydia Serwaa’s life is nothing to write home about. The resident of Bosoro, a village in the Ashanti Region, has been struggling to make a living from her palm kernel oil business.
Auntie Yaa as she is popular known in the village, says she exchanges the oil with palm kernel fruit to sustain her business as she does not have business capital.
“I survive on the little profit I make from the palm kernel oil business. I used to do palm oil but I have stopped. When people give me the palm kernel, I also give them the oil in return so I don’t buy the fruits. But apart from making the oil, I am a farmer”. She told crimecheckghana.
The famished woman who lives in an almost collapsed mud house with one of her children, has been complaining of illness for some time, but is unable to get medical care because of financial difficulties. She said due to the difficulties she is contemplating going back to her hometown where she thinks she would get support from her children who live there but have abandoned her.
“I am not feeling well and my eyes are also affected but I don’t have money to go to the hospital. Life has been difficult for me so I have decided to go back to my hometown. It has been a long time since my children sent me money so may be if I go there they will help me.” She said.
Crime Check Foundation, CCF through one of its UK based donors, popularly known as Zoro King gave Auntie Yaa an amount of Two Hundred Ghana Cedis for her upkeep.
With tears filled in her eyes, she was grateful for the support. “God bless you. May He cause your business to grow.” She prayed.
CCF is appealing to the public to some to the aid of the old woman to gain livelihood.
